New iOS Text Bug Crashes iPhones

A new version of text bomb bug has the potential to cause widespread problems to iOS users. The crash can be triggered by a notification from any app, including Messages, WhatsApp, Twitter, or through SMS upon receive on a collection of characters in the Sindhi language and emojis.

Affected Versions

The latest iOS version 13.4.1 is affected. According to our test results version, 13.3.1 also appeared to be affected. Therefore, there may be multiple iOS versions affected.

Mitigation

  • The notifications can be turned off until Apple releases a fix. An iPhone that does crash after receiving the notification can get back up and running after a reboot according to our testing.
  • Additionally, there is an option to upgrade to iOS latest beta version 13.4.5 which contains a patch for this flaw.
